Match a discontinued wallpaper
Need more of a paper that is no longer made, or a near match to patch a room? Photograph the remaining wall or a spare offcut, and find the closest designs available now.

How it works
- Photograph or upload the wallpaper, sample or picture you like.
- Crop to the pattern, or search the whole photo.
- Browse the closest designs, see why each matches, and follow the link to its source.
Tips for a good match
- Photograph an unfaded area, such as behind a picture or inside a cupboard.
- Include a full repeat so the scale can be compared.
- Faded paper shifts colour: switch on “ignore colour” to match the pattern itself.
- Order samples before buying: printed colour varies between batches and screens.
Questions
- Can you find the original manufacturer?
- Only if the design is in the catalogue. Results show the closest designs and their source; for antique papers the museum records often name the maker and the date.
- Why does the closest match still look different?
- The catalogue is still small, so the closest design can differ in scale or colourway. Use the colour filter and the pattern-only mode to explore, and check back as retailer catalogues are added.
- Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
- No. Your photo is decoded and cropped in your browser, and any location data embedded in it is discarded. Only a small numerical description of the crop (colour, texture and edge statistics, about 6 KB) is sent to compare against the catalogue; it cannot be turned back into a picture and is not stored.
- What is in the catalogue?
- Historic wallcoverings from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, both released under CC0, plus clearly labelled sample listings. Retailer catalogues with prices and links are being added.
- Does it work on my phone?
- Yes. Tap “Take a photo” to use the camera, or upload from your gallery. After the first visit the app opens offline and can search a smaller built-in catalogue; retailer listings and prices need a connection.
