About What Wallpaper
What Wallpaper finds wallpaper designs that look like a photo. You photograph a wall, a sample or something you like, crop the pattern, and the app ranks a catalogue of designs by colour, texture and pattern structure. Results are suggestions of similar designs, never a guaranteed identification.
Your photo is decoded and cropped in your browser and never uploaded; only a small numerical description of the crop is sent to rank the catalogue.
The catalogue currently contains historic wallcoverings from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, released under CC0, plus clearly labelled synthetic sample listings used to demonstrate retail features. Every record shows its source, licence and the date it was last checked.
